The Nihon Hikikomori Kyoukai or N.H.K (The Japanese Hikikomori Association, 日本ひきこもり協会), which is a parody of the actual broadcasting organization, Nippon Housou Kyoukai (The Japanese Broadcasting Corporation, 日本放送協会). is Tatsuhiro Satou's fabrication of an organization operating off of a subversive government-driven conspiracy, meant to induce Japan's youth into a hikikomori lifestyle, through fictional media and brainwashing. The so called agents of the organization manifest themselves in Satou's delusions as strange creatures. There is another meaning to the name NHK, given by Misaki Nakahara, called the Nihon Hitojitsu Kyoukai (The Japanese Hostage-Exchange Association, 日本人実交換会) with the references brought up under different circumstances. In the anime, it is brought up after Tatsuhiro Satou and Misaki Nakahara attempt committing suicide, a joint agreement that neither of them will be allowed to surrender their lives, unless the other does so as well. In the manga, she brings it up when talking to Yuuichi Kobayashi in preventing his suicide attempt. The implications of this have the same effect as the anime's.
